Increase your sales across the island
Neurotech
Co.Galway
Galway-based Neurotech has reported a 300% increase in its
revenue in Northern Ireland
as a direct result of participating in InterTradeIreland’s
Acumen programme. The company whose products are used to provide pain relief for common conditions like back and
labour pain, and muscle stimulation devices to aid rehabilitation for patients
suffering the affects of knee injury/surgery, stroke or incontinence, took part in the programme hoping to better their understanding of
the Northern market and to develop relationships with new clients there.
“We
were already doing some very limited business in the North as a result of our Galway salesperson travelling over the border,” said Alan
O’Shea, general manager, “but this was more responsive than proactive. We
needed to employ a dedicated salesperson there and InterTradeIreland’s Acumen made this possible.”
‘’The consultant introduced us to some of the key
hospitals and clinics there and, as a result, we established strong
relationships with the Royal Hospitals Trust and Musgrave
Park Hospital
in Belfast’’
said Alan O Shea General Manager. ‘These contracts contributed significantly to
an increase in revenue of 300% in just one year.”

A local company has reported a 300% increase in its revenue in Northern Ireland as a direct result of participating in InterTradeIreland’s Acumen programme.
Galway-based Neurotech took part in the programme hoping to better their understanding of the Northern market and to develop relationships with new clients there.
“We were already doing some very limited business in the North as a result of our Galway salesperson travelling over the border,” said Alan O’Shea, general manager, “but this was more responsive then proactive. We needed to employ a dedicated salesperson there and InterTradeIreland’s Acumen made this possible.”
Ballybrit-based Neurotech is a subsidiary of the BMR (Bio-Medical Research) Group, – which was formed in 1990 and, with origins as far back as 1964, quickly established itself as Europe’s largest supplier of innovative electrical muscle stimulation devices.
A team of researchers and developers work closely with local and international universities in sophisticated R&D programmes to provide high-quality, clinically proven and innovative electrotherapy-based medical devices for use in the public and private health services.
Mr O’Shea said: “We market our products in Ireland, the UK and Germany and, in our current internationalisation phase, are placing distributors throughout Europe, and as far away as the USA and Japan, thereby laying the foundations for a profitable future for the company.”
Neurotech products are used to provide pain relief for common conditions like back and labour pain, and muscle stimulation devices such as Kneehab and CombiStim XP to aid rehabilitation for patients suffering the affects of knee injury/surgery, stroke or incontinence.
“Our medical devices help to improve the lives of over 300,000 patients every year, and our popularity can be attributed to the innovation and efficacy of our product range,” he explained. “We strive to develop products that are user friendly and aid clinician patient rehabilitation programmes, but that operate within a clinically proven area.”
Mr O’Shea said that business was continuing to grow, despite the current economic gloom: “Our products are clinically proven to speed up the rehabilitation process and this is becoming more important than ever as people aim to go back to work much quicker after illness and improve day-to-day function.
“Both public and private hospitals and clinics will utilise our products more as they aim to speed recovery and enable patients to avail of effective home-based therapy to maximise the benefit of their physiotherapy programmes. As a result, there is an ever-growing demand for our products, and sales are constantly increasing.”
Acumen Sales Salary Support enabled the company to employ Co Down-based sales consultant Audrey Nagaria, who was tasked with helping them to understand the market in the North better and to establish relationships with target customers there.
“Audrey spent a lot of the time on the ground analysing and qualifying new accounts in the North that she recommended we move forward with,” said Mr O’Shea. “She introduced us to some of the key hospitals and clinics there and, as a result, we established strong relationships with the Royal Hospitals Trust and Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast.
“These contracts contributed significantly to an increase in revenue of 300% in just one year.”
Mr O’Shea reported that the company was still reaping the ongoing benefits from long term accounts, thanks to the relationships that Audrey established.
“InterTradeIreland’s Acumen proved to be an excellent mechanism for gaining an understanding of a new market place and gaining new accounts,” he commented. “I would strongly recommend Acumen participation as the key activity for other companies seeking to venture over the border for business.”
