    NeoDyne would like to develop a Remote Monitoring and Analytics platform whereby machine/production line performance could be monitored and analysed with a user friendly output generated which can easily be understood by senior management. To enable this opportunity to be realised NeoDyne would like to build a bespoke cloud-based system that will monitor the enabled machines to record and report all information generated.
    The platform will be developed and designed for use by NeoDyne and its customers, to correlate data so that it can be easily understood by senior management. The system will integrate all facets of the enabled machines performance.

    FUSION PROJECT

    Chameleon Colour Systems Ltd. develops, manufactures and markets paint colorant dispensing (tinting) and mixing equipment for the paint and coatings industry. This equipment, part of Point of Sale Paint Mixing Systems, allows paint stockists to offer customers their chosen paint colour.  

    The project is to design, develop and produce a microcontroller PC board to enable enhanced functionality which can be integrated into Chameleon’s product range and provide a long term hardware platform for the company in their mixing product line. The key area of work is software development to support self-diagnostics of the hardware unit, remote debugging and the capability for the product to wirelessly inform Chameleon of diagnostic outcomes or events. In particular, development the capability for machine-to-machine communication.

    Axial3D is a medical technology company providing the healthcare sector with specialist 3D printing services.  The aim of this project is to develop a software package to perform automatic segmentation of patient specific anatomical features from MRI imagery using Machine Learning techniques, in particular for cardiac applications. Such software will enable the company to provide 3D printing service to cardiac clinicians based on MRI scans as well as CT, upscale the production volume and minimise the costs of anatomical 3D prints

    Tasty Foods is a progressive food manufacturing company within the NI market, producing pastes, pies, sauces, sausage rolls and catering products. Tasty Food products are retailed by a number of large retailers and foodservice outlets within NI as well as by a large number of independent retailers.  

    The main objective of this project is to establish a New Product Development (NPD) unit within the business that will develop formalised processes for NPD and bring 2 new sauce/stock products and 2 new deli style products through this system that are suitable for retail into the large multiple retailers. This will help the company grow further in NI and establish itself in ROI & UK markets.

    D4 Products is the leading manufacturer of Insulated Rolling Doors in Ireland and is acquiring a growing market share in UK. The company needs to further develop its existing Magroll 95mm range to incorporate a new product namely a high speed insulated door. This is not just a case of installing a higher speed mechanism but will require a high degree of product redevelopment to develop a product suitable for the current market needs and capable of competing with alternative imported products. Many of the components used within the existing range will need to be upgraded to be able to work at a high speed. 3 of the key problems which must be overcome are as follows:
     Lowering the noise of a high speed operation
     Getting the correct Motor/Inverter with suitable gearbox and other electronic products to work together.
     Making several rollers/belts to allow the door to function smoothly at high speeds

    Condron’s main business is the manufacture of concrete, pipes, manhole sections bases and roof tiles. Condron also produces High Density Polyethylene twin-wall pipes and accessories using post consumer waste.  The project is development and optimisation of Condron’s plastics recycling plant, ensuring high quality material is produced. This will be achieved by introducing robust processes and procedures for assessing incoming plastic waste streams, process monitoring, product testing and staff training. This will ensure good quality recycled High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) material is supplied to Condron’s twin wall pipe production lines.

    Chapman foods of Battlehill ltd is a food manufacturing company that provides Bramley apple & rhubarb pie filling to the bakery and wholesale sectors in the Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.  

    The main objectives of the project are to design and develop: A. an expanded range of fruit pie fillings and jams
    B. a range of low sugar pie fillings
    C. a pie kit for home bakers.
    This will enable the company to enter the wholesale market in the UK and potentially opening opportunities in the retail market.

    See.Sense is an award winning smart sensor technology and data company. Our patent pending technology is deployed on bikes to crowdsource data for use in Smart and Future Cities initiatives.
    The main objective of the project is to design and develop an embedded wireless solution for the See.Sense patent pending sensor platform. This will enable it to be used on city bikes, providing a mobile sensor platform for cities. SeeSense needs to bolster their expertise and to reduce their reliance on bought in technology by designing and developing their own embedded solutions for RF connectivity using Bluetooth, Zigbee, and the emerging Low Power Wide Area network (LPWAN) e.g. LORA/Sigfox. In parallel, another important objective is to build up embedded design knowledge and capability within the company, in order to reduce costs, increase innovation, and expand the product range and markets.

    To create the capability within the company to become a preferred (tier 1) design and manufacturer of specialist off-road exhaust systems to existing and new OEMs.
    The focus of the project will be to enhance the overall manufacturing performance of the company by establishing improved design and manufacturing processes, the incorporation of computer numerical controlled (CNC) pipe bending technology and digital co-ordinate measurement (CMM) dimensional and product validation processes. There is also a requirement to rapidly reverse engineer low volume and proto-type (type approval) exhaust systems using 3D CAD systems integrated with the capability of the CMM and CNC resources.

    FUSION PROJECT

    The Main objective of this project is to review the current business Contract to Cash process and design, install and configure a new bespoke Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to suit the Smiley Monroe business process. This will include the development of new business processes and customised extensions to the ERP system to cater specifically for the Smiley Monroe production process. This will allow the company to effectively and readily expand into the North American market, control its current markets and support its subsidiary business unit in India.
    The unique needs of Smiley Monroe will require considerable configuration and extension to ensure maximum benefit is returned, which an ‘off the Shelf’ system cannot offer. The extensions to the off the shelf system will include advanced reporting, multi modal interaction and optimised data input.
    The new processes will:
     Standardise the management of inventory
     Improve factory planning and scheduling
     Reduce costs
     Improve the effective use of staff time

    The complexity involved in the highly competitive electronics manufacturing industry with considerable product variation and high component counts requires a high level of visibility into the factory operations.

    The Project will be known as the "Visual Factory" and this will allow for the consolidation of data from various data systems inside the existing manufacturing facility and presentation of this data in an online manner enabling process optimisation.

    The proposed project will primarily involve the design, system development, supply, commission and management of a novel high-performance energy technology The proposed product will require significant research and development prior to commercialisation. The scope for a product such as the one proposed is due to a growing need for the use of renewable and sustainable technologies to meet energy demand. Over the past decade there has been significant growth in the development of photovoltaic technology and as a result its use is much more economically feasible.

    This project aims at developing a product that can be installed as part of the fabric of a building, as opposed to onto an existing building, and in doing so reduce the development cost of the building while supplying energy to the building. The new product to be developed will be based around the Tesla Roof idea which in essence means that instead of using a standard roof tile or slate, a roof tile with an embedded photovoltaic panel is used in its place. The positive result of this is a roof that acts as an energy system, delivering electricity while also offering the same robust performance as a standard roof tile or slate.

    The proposed project is multidisciplinary, involving mechanical, electrical, control and building engineering skills. Furthermore, the vast amount of engineering disciplines will require expert support to successfully complete this novel project

    Kelsius is the leading supplier of automation technology for product safety and compliance to the food services and healthcare industries. Using wireless sensor technology and cloud based data hosting and processing, Kelsius systems improve product safety, ensure regulatory compliance and optimise costs associated with these activities

    Storage technology has evolved over the recent past. This project will investigate this to find a more appropriate and efficient storage solution. Once agreed, data processing software will be developed to take advantage of this new storage solution.

    Software Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) will also be designed and implemented to query temperature records from this new data storage technology and allow backward compatibility into Kelsius’ existing customer web portals.

    A new reporting system will be implemented to take full advantage of the increased speed of data storage access, to respond to new customer reporting requirements. This will ensure Kelsius stands apart from the competition. This will also increase potential market targets, by providing compliance, to respond to various legal requirements enforced country by country

    The main aim of the project is the optimization of Cherry Pipes manufacturing facilities in order to meet ever increasing sales demand without sacrificing the quality of their existing products. Athlone IT will aid the Graduate with the implementation and characterization of all incoming feed stock to all three plants, which will lead to better quality products and less defect parts being produced. The Graduate will be tasked with creating a standardised protocol for the identification of sub-standard material. This step of the project will eliminate the needless transportation of flake/resin between plants. Optimisation of all extrusion lines will be carried out to increase production capacity, reduce the need for expensive virgin materials, and optimize the current blend formulation whilst reducing energy costs associated with each process.

    This project will create an automated customer portal 'configuration engine' to replicate the process of selecting a customer’s products features. Users will select product options in any order, specifying those that are most important to them and the automatic product configuration engine creates a custom offering along with an appropriate quote. Such a product will allow Verify to streamline the entire configure, price and quote process thus leading to an increase in sales as lack of automated customer activation is currently a limiting factor.

    Mackey Equestrian plans to design and develop a new range of smart winter rugs and to establish a structured new product development process and department within the company. The project will establish a 3D CAD design capability in Mackey Equestrian to develop this new smart winter rug product (and further new products) and implement design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA). This will also reduce design time, costs and make the company more efficient for this new product and future new products. The new product range will initially be targeted at the Irish, UK and Swedish markets. The smart aspect of the blanket will be a combination of cutting age fabrics, assembly techniques and incorporate an embedded systems design element. Sensors will measure and transmit data on movement, temperature and heart rate. This project will develop the new equestrian product from initial concept through design development, prototyping, test method design, evaluation, reviews, specifications, verification, protocols through to transfer to production activities in an efficient method

    Market research has identified a genuine need within the aviation industry for large-scale, re-locatable temporary hangars. Due to explosive growth trends in both passenger and freight air-transport, there is a large industrial sector that is looking for such a product to be developed. With the experience of JB Roche in already existing smaller scale inflatable structures and the outcomes of this Fusion Project it is hoped to develop a cost effective hybrid hangar design (potentially combining lightweight truss frames with inflatable elements).     In this FUSION project, Brandon would like to take the proof of concept Natucrop prototype product and perform field trails on different crops in the target locations, generate and analyse trial data and then present this trial data to clients and at technical conferences to provide verified data highlighting the benefits of the product. These are called stocking loans and are asset loans against specific vehicles. This is currently undertaken by representatives of both financial institution and vehicle manufacturers, who make regular surprise visits to each dealership to physically view each vehicle that is currently active on their stocking loan to ensure that the vehicles have not been sold. The project will investigate factory simulation and process layout so as to streamline production workflows of the new hot-water tank manufacturing facilities.

Harlequin and AIT will use the lessons learned in process improvement with the hot water tanks to drive greater efficiencies in the production of these large effluent tanks.

In addition, by implementing an effective BIM strategy and associated framework the Company can move from its current Level 3 certification status (awarded by the Loss Prevention Certification Board) to Level 4, the top level for sprinkler firms. As a result, NSC will be able to tender for and secure significantly larger public contracts in the export market. This will remove a significant bottleneck to the development and expansion of its business by gaining access to more commercially significant projects as well as improved overall efficiency and streamlined internal processes.

    Part of the company’s 2020 vision and strategy is to expand the number of high value products into the current product mix.  SAM is currently at the early stage of developing a number of new products from a unique, extreme fibre board called Trimax.  As a product, Trimax offers a number of unique attributes over other timber based products, for example, Trimax is very dimensionally stable, waterproof termite resistant and has a 50-year guarantee.

     

    To generate high levels of revenue, it is essential that the company has the capability and expertise to manufacture as many new products from the Trimax board.  The company has 25 years expertise in manufacturing high volume MDF products but has recently found Trimax challenging to mould, paint and pack.  There are also testing and trials associated with each new product.  External cladding panels developed in house will require further research and design to ensure they comply with current NHBC and Building Control Standards.  As Trimax has never been manufactured within a high volume factory setting, there lies an opportunity and a platform for SAM to develop various products that can be manufactured within a lean factory setting.

     

    The FUSION programme will enable the company to solve problems associated with the manufacturing of this unique material, whilst embedding all the knowledge gained to produce a lean manufacturing process for each new product.

The soft touch shower tray will enable Classic Marble to introduce an innovative product into the bathroom sector which will provide improvements over existing shower trays in terms of slip resistance, comfort and thermal insulation.

    The soft touch shower tray will consist of a:
    1 Soft interface
    2 Foam core,
    3 Rigid backing,

    The key aspect of this concept is to have a tough flexible material, which will not undergo embrittlement over a 10 to 15 year period. The material would have to be UV stable, wear resistance and soft to the touch. In addition, careful consideration would be paid to the design of the interface which may entail contour.

    This project will involve the development of a new software package and mobile app called ‘ReadyTeck’.  ReadyTech is an important development for Impartx.  It will help it to consolidate the company’s current position with its main client (Ericsson), as well as creating a platform for growing the range of services it can offer to the Telecoms Sector as a whole.  ReadyTeck will change the relationship between large companies like Ericsson and the contract workers it uses.  Ericsson currently do not hire these contractors directly.  It uses Approved Resource Providers (ARPs), who add unstainable costs and control information about the supply of contractors.  ReadyTeck will remove the ARP from the hiring process thus allowing qualified technicians to represent themselves directly to the companies that hire them.  In addition the project will involve a detailed stakeholder needs analysis,  business process reengineering, substantial change management and the development of a data archive and data tool analysis.

    Ceramicx design and manufacture ceramic infrared heating elements and complete turnkey infrared heating systems for industrial and commercial applications. Ceramicx’s products and systems are used in a wide range of applications such as packaging, thermoforming, non-contact drying, spot heating, warming food, infrared saunas and numerous other industrial processes. The FUSION project will look at the infra-red curing of carbon fibre/epoxy composites and the manufacture of an improved Drape Forming machine. The project will research the factors facilitating the appropriate curing of epoxy resin in a carbon fibre composite.

    Marshall Day Acoustics Ireland provides professional acoustic consulting services in all aspects of architectural and environmental acoustics.  The aim of the FUSION project is to carry out underwater noise measurements from a variety of noise sources and across various environmental conditions to provide validation to the prediction modeling software, dBSea, to ensure that they have the ability to stand over the software. Marshall Day Acoustic developed dBSea and it is currently the only commercially available software for carrying out underwater noise predictions.  This is a very unique project and with the successful ground testing of the software backed up by peer-reviewed publication will ensure that dBsea will be in demand internationally.

    Hoy Dorman provides a full range of civil engineering services to the public and private sector including developers, contractors, local / County Councils and Central Government Agencies.  Hoy Dorman have extensive experience in providing Expert Witness services to legal professionals and offer a wide range of training to civil engineering professionals.This project will focus on creating a Remote Traffic Assessment Platform (RTAP) solution which will use emerging Internet of Things (IoT) device types to provide a low cost solution for traffic monitoring and assessment.  The rationale therefore behind this project is to develop a new product which will replace much higher cost optical traffic assessment software solutions with an IoT things based commodity hardware solution. The proposed Raspberry Pi will use lower cost motion sensors to detect a passing car.

Award winning Craft Butcher Jimmy McLoughin originally began producing gourmet chicken products for supply to butcher shops and restaurants. Specialising in ready-to-cook chicken, an extensive range of popular products was developed around the needs of the customer. An emphasis on quality ingredients combined with attention to detail throughout the production process, resulted in popular, consistent meal solutions. Many of its products have received speciality food awards from the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland.  This FUSION project will embed a food science and technology capability within the companyto underpin a major investment in higher level processing and bring at least 3 new high quality chicken products to Irish and UK major multiple retail markets.

    AspiraCon wish to develop a new Healthcare Data collection and reporting system that will deliver a number of advantages over existing systems.  The AspiraCon system will be able to flexibly migrate data from a wide variety of legacy systems that are used internationally.  It will include comprehensive data validation and cleansing algorithms to identify invalidate or suspect data. This means it will prevent corrupt data from being uploaded into the system, and in many cases will “auto-correct” data with minimal human intervention.  The system will include a set of flexible data reporting options, with pre-canned reporting capability tailored to different user categories.

    MT Waste manufacture metal containers for waste storage and transit. As well as manufacturing, the company has an established skip hiring business with a range of different types of containers for hire and a range of waste management services for domestic, commercial and industrial waste. The large range of engineering facilities enables the company to manufacture metal waste containers for many purposes in the UK and Ireland. This product is highly exportable to the global market for a large number of applications.  

    The FUSION project will primarily involve the design, build and certification of an emergency crisis unit (used as a Welfare Cabin, Mobile Detention Unit, Mobile Decontamination Unit, Building Support Cabin, etc.) to meet the large market needs. The majority of the product components and fabrication can be undertaken at Mt-waste using the large number of high-end manufacturing techniques and processes available. Also, a significant body of work will be required in the electrical and control engineering issues. Furthermore, the vast amount of engineering disciplines will require expert support to successfully complete this novel project.

    SpecDrum Engineering is one of the world's largest suppliers of conveyor pulleys, supplying world leading brands in the crushing, screening and mining industry.
    In order to meet current capacity 60% of the conveyor pulleys are outsourced to and made in China.  While this has serviced demand, it hasn’t allowed the company to build its own expertise as it would wish and has at times compromised quality, reduced control and increased delivery and lead times. 


    This will be an import substitution project enabling the company to redefine and redesign their current product range and to introduce a significant change in the production process by significantly boosting CNC capacity and introducing automation and robotics into the manufacturing process.

This will involve designing and producing a new functionality using EID/RFID (Electronic/Radio Frequency) systems linked with farm management software to signal whether or not a gate should open.

    Harp Electrical manufacturer of electrical control panels, monitoring and verification equipment. In this regard the company designs, manufactures, installs and services all the control system packages for their clients in Ireland and the UK.

    Harp Electrical recently acquired a new company who have developed a food waste to energy system.  Currently Harp Electrical  have no experience in fuel development or renewable heating regulations and processes.  This project will transfer and embed knowledge on fuel development, biomass combustion in the company through the graduate.

    The project will also ensure this food waste to energy technology can comply with environmental and legislative standards, and continue to comply with future more stringent legislation.   This will include end of waste compliance, energy analysis and new feedstock development through laboratory and field-testing.  This will lead to future development of more waste to energy products and better scientifically informed customer support.

    Monaghan Electrical is an electrical wholesale and design company serving domestic and international customers. They specialise in the electrical design and procurement for large projects, such as large scale industrial and commercial builds, e.g. production plants and hotels. We have previous experience in exporting our electrical design services to European and African continents.

    The project involves the design of an innovative wall mounted recessed enclosure (utility meter box), the kind typically used to house gas and electric meters on dwelling houses.

    This innovative approach involves designing the box to be further recessed into the wall and be able to take an applied finish such as plaster, brick or cladding.  The box would then be flush with the wall and would be almost unnoticeable. Therefore the finished building will be closer to the architect’s envisaged design.

    Sentel is a software development company which specialises in Telecommunications Expense Management (TEM). The software Sentel provides allows large organizations such as health trusts to reduce both their landline and mobile costs by reporting on usage and identifying areas where costs savings can be made. Unified Communications is emerging as the new approach to sharing information inside large organisations. The data or broadband networks inside large organisations will be used for the transmission of all kinds of information including documents, video calls etc. but crucially to Sentel’s business, to telephone calls. To provide TEM services under this Unified Communications approach, with FUSION Sentel needs to integrate the Microsoft Lync data interface product into its existing product and provide data encryption algorithms to prevent potentially sensitive data from being intercepted while it is being gathered.

    CRS (NI) Ltd was founded by Sean Conlon in May 2009. Sean has over 20 years experience in this industry. CRS (NI) Ltd design and manufacture products for the Waste Recycling Industry. These products are used to separate waste into its components in order to greatly speed up the process of recycling. The main objective of this project is to design and manufacture an Eddy Current System, and integrate this to our current product line of waste sorting machinery. An Eddy Current System allows automatic separation of ferrous and non-ferrous metal which provides a huge economic advantage to recycling companies and municipal council recycling operations. This will ensure that the current range of recycling machines are100% designed and built in-house. Currently we have to outsource the Eddy Current technology. In the design and build of this new product we will investigate methods of producing an Eddy Current, and its effects on different sizes of non-ferrous metals.

    The modularization process is key to enabling the efficiency and effectiveness essential to enable Kilderry to provide a fast, bespoke service tailored to the client’s needs and in a cost-effective manner. It is proposed that a series of control modules will be developed to enable the implementation of specific vehicular adaptation technologies, and these will be developed for use on a number of target vehicles including:
    1. Basic Tar Spray Truck;
    2. Basic Chip Truck;
    3. Advanced Combi (Tar/Chip) Truck.

    The development of such modules will result in a much more efficient, effective and scalable approach to automating Tar/Chip Trucks, significantly widening the opportunity for product sales for Kilderry Instruments Ltd. Kilderry are currently in discussions with two Irish based customers who are already established customers, and want this software suite to become a reality. This is one route to market. We also have contacts in the UK, New Zealand and Australia who have indicated that if and when we have something to show them, they would be interested in talking to us.

    Laser Porototypes Europe is a Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Tooling contract manufacturing company. By using leading edge 3D Printing technologies they provide prototypes and short production runs to companies in the Medical, Aerospace, Automotive, Electronics and Consumer Products industries.  The main aim of the FUSION project is to design a mould from new materials for injection moulding companies that can accommodate different inserts and test the durability of these inserts. Such a mould is called a standard bolster because it can accommodate different inserts of alternative designs from different customers, thus reducing the overall mould cost for a customer. The inserts will be made in a range of 3D Printing technologies and materials to see can they successfully provide a faster/cheaper alternative to traditional more expensive tooling inserts. If successful this will allow the company to offer a new process and product. In particular they are interested to determine what medical grade plastics they could mould using these 3D printed inserts.

    Gem Plastic is a manufacturer of HDPE blow-moulded products including a full range of industrial packaging for solids and liquids, aquaculture floats and some leisure products. Their core business is the manufacture and supply of a full range of plastic packaging for liquids and solids from 1L to 220L.  The FUSION project will focus on the development of a high quality 50L plastic pressure vessel suitable for beer. The new product will have to conform to industry standards for plastic beer kegs. Furthermore, a second keg of 30L size will have to be developed immediately after the launch of the 50L to maximize its commercial worth.

    Copper Industries design and manufacture a range of standard and bespoke hot water cylinders, calorifiers and combination units. The range includes both domestic and industrial cylinders which are installed throughout Ireland and the UK.  The FUSION project will undertake the design, development and testing of a prototype for an electrically heated cylinder with a built in control system. The design stage will involve multiple tasks such as material selection, energy calculations, controls and selection of suitable manufacturing processes. This product will be aimed at new and retro fit installations particularly where OFCH is not suitable due to flues etc. The product will heat the water via means of an electrical element and provide a clean and cost effective hot water source in large urban areas.

These outages can cost the customer in the region of £1,000,000 per day and are business critical to get right. From its modest beginning, with a team of three, hand preparing the fruit and cooking the jams and marmalades in the family kitchen, the company has grown substantially at its Ballymakeera factory to produce over 30 products, across the relish, pickle, jam, marmalade, sauce and seasonal categories. Folláin’ products are available from Tesco, SuperValu, Superquinn, Dunnes Stores, independent outlets and fine food shops nationwide. Folláin prides itself on using Irish ingredients wherever possible and works closely with producers to ensure its supply of only the best ingredients. The company has won numerous great taste awards for its products, and recently gave its jars a well-received makeover and ran a “Naturally Made From All Things Nice” campaign with the Irish Independent. 

    This FUSION project will formalise the new product development system for Folláin branded and own label business opportunities, and bring new cooking sauce and other innovative, wholesome savoury and sweet preserve products to existing and new customers.

    Health and Sport Technologies core product is Metrifit, a Software as a Service (SaaS) product that collects, collates and analyses data to provide timely and efficient information to promote pro-active decision-making and improve performance in sport.  Metrifit provides a platform for tracking and monitoring key metrics, supported by a communication portal for frequent and effective feedback, thus optimising the potential for success.  Metrifit aims to use this powerful data to identify trends and patterns to provide insights into understanding the “how” and “why” on the journey to peak performance.

    The R&D that the FUSION project will provide will allow them to develop data mining techniques and base algorithms that will turn the raw data that we collect from our customers into valuable insights. Predictive analysis in sports is in its infancy and Metrifit is a forerunner. Health and Sport Technologies want to develop a new business intelligence engine which will provide innovative and unique algorithms for modelling and detecting hidden patterns and trends in large volumes of data. These will include generic algorithms across multiple sports as well as specific algorithms for individual sports.

It seeks to create contemporary new designs, whilst honouring Irish heritage, to bring a unique new product to the American market; realized through innovative pattern engineering, and contemporary and authentic fabrics to convey Irish tradition.     The objective of this FUSION project is to design and produce a system with a customized printed circuit board (PCB) which can be used on compressed air driven advanced drilling units (ADUs) to control the number of times a drill bit can be used in order to eliminate potential drilling issues – a “shut-off” system.     Masita Sportswear (MASITA) design, manufacture and supply personalized jerseys and teamwear for the GAA and soccer market. The market is predominantly schools, colleges and clubs. In-house designers produce customized sportswear based on team logo and colour preferences. Garment designs are printed onto fabric before being cut and sewn on the premises.  

    The FUSION project will transform MASITA’s piecemeal software provision into a highly integrated computer system (ICS) with a more efficient approach to design re-use and automated tracking of printed fabrics (QR codes and wireless technology) and a user friendly interactive eCommerce module. It will involve developing software, incorporating new hardware and tailoring major applications to link existing packages. Expert academic advice on teamwear design, aesthetics and the use of performance fabrics will inform and future-proof the ICS.

    The FUSION project goal is to design and implement an interactive system, incorporating a database, which will allow customers to enter technical requirements for switchgear power control systems. Skyway has been in business since 2000 and has installed systems on some of Irelands’ most prestigious building including Aviva Stadium, Convention Center Dublin, Grand Canal Square Theatre and T2 Dublin Airport.

    The FUSION project involves the development of a bespoke lifting hoist to assist maintenance workers changing a hydraulic unit stored in level crossing pedestals.     NGN’s core business is split between Government Agencies and Industry, with their principle business activities lying in testing and verifying high speed data networks. One of the key areas in which they work lies in the verification of the network performance where mobile cellular networks interface to conventional terrestrial networks, particularly in verifying the performance of the network at the interconnect point.  

    NGN proposes to develop a product which allows telecommunications installation engineers to very easily record information about which cable connects to which when joining high speed data cables in contemporary high speed data networks.  This product is called “Nuatag” which is a cable ID tagging system via a smartphone App to record individual cable joint locations and send the information to a central database which will significantly aid fault finding and other network problems.

    Essexford are specialist joinery manufacturers of bespoke fire and acoustic doors for commercial construction sector (hospitals, clinics, schools/further education, hotels, sports stadia, etc.). they also manufacture fire rated and non rated internal glazed screens, fire rated panel doors, rated and non rated wall panels, machined timbers and bespoke joinery pieces.  

    The aim of this FUSION project is to identify, research & develop, test and refine for production purposes a combined cross over fire and ballistic timber faced door (level 1 & 2 European EN 1063 Ballistic Standards) for high end residential, office sector and potentially security/military accommodation market.  This will be undertaken under the headings of market need/suitability, material suitability, physical product structure and composition, fire and ballistic testing requirements, development of a cost effective product for production within existing manufacturing techniques and processes.

    Coral Environmental specialises in the assessment, sampling, surveying and monitoring of the indoor environment. They provide a number of services from complete Legionella Management including Cleaning and Disinfection to Asbestos surveying, Air Quality assessments including Sampling and Pre Commission cleaning and Dosage of closed loop water systems.  

    Through this FUSION project Coral Environmental proposes to use the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) to automate their existing manual testing process control system (e.g. for Legionella testing), ensuring that it is compliant with regulatory standards. These processes/services will be available to staff on smartphones. Back end systems will verify that all regulatory stages have been completed.

    eDocs provide scanning and indexing services supported by cloud based software called ED². eDocs offers their customers a range of business processes and software applications including data analytics, superior data/document retrieval and workflow functionality. eDocs also offer a variety of custom designed solutions and services associated with the conversion, retrieval and secure storage of all electronic, film and paper based documents.  

    The FUSION project will develop an intelligent fully integrated logistics resource planning and management software system for fleet management with real-time route and load optimization in addition to electronic proof of delivery (ePOD) capabilities. This will allow for profit optimisation and immediate profitability availability by truck, load and customer. Such a tool will also, using cloud technology, obtain confirmation of delivery and update the records for same in real time, allowing for same day invoicing and improvement of cash flow for the customer. Advanced features are to be incorporated such as GPS tracking and route and load optimisation, ePOD technology, automatic job booking and assignment & email notifications, and batch invoicing.

    STATSports designs, develops and manufactures its own range of GPS (Global Satellite Positioning) electronics and software products for the elite team sports market and has quickly grown to be Europe’s premier Sports Science service for Soccer, Rugby and the GAA markets.  The product set includes electronics and an extensive software system that can provide accurate feedback to coaches on football players’ athletic performance during training and competitive matches.  

    STATSports current offering —the Viper system— is very successful and highly regarded, but it is based on GPS and as such is primarily an outdoor system as good reception of satellite signals is not usually available indoors.

    This FUSION project will research the architecture of an indoor version of Viper that examines the use of novel wearable sensors to replace the GPS performance information and the use of shared-data / mobile-device model to allow simultaneous usage by a number of coaches in a gym or rehabilitation suite.

    Zinc Software is an Irish technology company based in Dublin. Its core team having come from MIT MediaLab combine over 40 years' experience in technology innovation. The Zen sensor will be used to collect physiological data including heart rate, breathing rate and movement (via accelerometry) during exercises.     Transpoco provide GPS fleet management systems to a range of customers in Ireland, UK and France. The company currently tracks vehicles for over 400 client companies. Some of Transpoco’s customers include Dublin City council, Fingal County Council, ESB, Wexford county council and many others.  Transpoco’s customers use the system to minimise the cost of running their fleet on the road. Transpoco put a black box in every vehicle that shows the real time location of the vehicle and records all driving history. Transpoco add value by taking all this data and creating management reports to highlight areas for improvement and to help their customers in the day to day running of their fleet.

    The main objective of this FUSION project is to design, develop, and implement an intelligent and web-enabled system to manage all aspects of fuel use within a customer’s fleet. As there is a lot of data gathered, Transpoco need to use some artificial intelligence and data analytics to accurately diagnose the customers’ problems in relation to wasted fuel.

The ‘Facebook-like’ toolkit will hopefully be adopted by all farmers and become a much-used ‘app’ offering help, support and guidance on a range of farm-related topics.     Sperrin Metal Products has grown steadily since its formation in 1963 to become one of the leading storage manufacturers in Britain and Ireland selling a complete range of pallet racking, shelving, lockers, cupboards and mezzanine floors. The company oversees the whole process from design and manufacture through to installation and after sales care. The FUSION project will enable Sperrin to develop its expertise in engineering design and structural testing and provide an opportunity for additional improvements in the production planning process leading to substantial cost saving. The company will then be in a position to design, develop and manufacture its own new product, a specific profile section for knockdown end frames.

    Bruce Engineering is a manufacturer and supplier of feeding, screening, recycling, washing, bespoke engineering equipment and solutions worldwide.  Bruce is also a Hardox Wearparts manufacturer.  Bruce has provided solutions within the materials handling industry for over 50 years and has an excellent track record of robust, high quality equipment and expert design and consultancy for bespoke solutions.  The FUSION project is primarily to conceptualise, develop and design a mobile Iron Ore mixing machine/unit, which is capable of adding appropriate concentrations of stabilising compound to the ore in order to overcome problems associated with transportation by sea going vessels (material is presently free flowing resulting in stability issues).

    Ryan Hanley is a leading civil engineering firm in the delivery of water conservation and network management projects in Ireland.   For the past 15 years a Water Conservation and Network Management Division has been developed within the Water Services Department to provide design, procurement and project management services for all aspects of Water Conservation and Network Management Projects across the country.  Ryan Hanley has identified the need for a standardised, independent, automated system to report on the massive amount of data being generated on a daily basis within local water authorities. This FUSION project is focused on creating a water network management tool. This will provide a platform independent monitoring system for operational staff and a workforce management system to maximise the use of constrained resources.

    AW Control Systems design, build, install and commission automated control panels. They specialise in industrial control panel design and manufacture, using only quality switchgear and components. The company intend to expand their capacity to enable the design and manufacture of control systems for the water and wastewater treatment industry. The main focus is on the design of Form 4 motor control centres (MCC’s) for the Water industry. This will involve interpreting client’s specifications and site drawings to provide a detailed electrical design of the necessary control system. These control systems will include pumps, actuators, flowmeters and other process control equipment. Most MCC’s will also include interfacing to a telemetry radio system for remote monitoring of the systems. The FUSION project will allow the company to offer innovative control systems to a wider range of industries.

    Edge Innovate is involved in the Design, Manufacture and Export of a range of equipment used in the Quarrying, Materials Handling and Recycling sectors. This equipment includes a range of Shredders, Trommels, Wheeled Conveyors, Tracked Conveyors and Feeders.  The FUSION project will introduce new engineering design capability to the company building on existing ‘hands-on’ engineering skills and to target two NPD opportunities: the development of a 2.5m wide Steel Apron Feeder in the Materials Handling sector and the development of an innovative Material Shredder in the Recycling Sector.

The company has exploited this niche successfully in weaving, knitting and hand knitting.  The FUSION project will improve factory control by developing a new Manufacturing Methodology that will be supported by a developed Manufacturing Information System. Increased access to Data combined with process improvement techniques will enhance throughput, planning scheduling and batch costing. The data provides rationale for streamlining and justifies the need for world class manufacturing practices and toolkits.

    Derchil Limited specialise in the design and installation of all aspects of energy saving insulation,   primarily in the area of External Wall Insulation and Cavity Wall and Loft Insulation. As Energy Engineer, you will be asked to develop a business model to enable specific demographics within communities to be targeted for energy saving measures. Part of our commitment to working with the SEAI is to establish future energy savings on houses that have had upgrade works. Derchil will be collecting energy use data and will be correlating this information into preset categories, and delivering a report on the long-term savings for each element of work. This information will be used to decide on the carbon savings for insulation measures for the Governments 2020 targets.

    Davra Networks is a software development company emerging from an R&D start-up phase.  The company has successfully developed a network management platform, RuBAN.  The platform has been primarily designed to manage networks that use Cisco devices.  It can be adopted for numerous business verticals such as Transport, Bus, Rail, ATM Machines and Vending.  Using wireless technology RuBAN allows a company to view the data generated by remote devices in a structured and informative way.  The main purpose of the FUSION project is to develop a new module for RuBAN that will allow the company to target a new market of communication networks on fleets of vehicles.  Davra’s plan is to enhance the RuBAN platform so that they can offer a tailored and comprehensive fleet management module that will pull together all the data communications on vehicles such as engine performance, electronic ticketing, and digital displays for transport companies that have installed this new Cisco device on their vehicles.

    Avenir Sports is Ireland's leading Performance Analysis company, working with many of the leading teams in Irish Sport.  The company provide video based performance analysis software and services for teams at all levels.  These services include capturing of footage, analysis and dissemination of this analysis.  Avenir is the master distributor of Sportstec performance analysis software on the island of Ireland.  With FUSION Avenir will aim to build an online sports performance management system. The emphasis of this system will be to easily disseminate video and other media to the stakeholders of the product via multiple devices. User Centered Interface Design and security are paramount to this system. An Administrator(s) will upload videos and other media and make them available to the system. Users will be able to log in, view and interact with these videos and provide relevant feedback.

    Compuscript specialise in publishing services including the capture of text and conversion for publication, primarily in medical journals and books. The company also provides services to ‘matchmake’ scientific authors in China, India and Japan with appropriate journals and works with the authors to develop the papers for publication in the targeted journals. The FUSION project focuses on these matchmaking services. The project will create a new product offering based on semantic search technology. The sophistication required to match content based on semantics of the content requires a new technological capability. This comprises filtering and gathering along with mapping and matching of data and information to customers, so that basic functions can be more automated than at present.     Shellfish De La Mer is a long established Co. Cork company whose core business is catching Irish shellfish, landing them and minimally processing them for Irish and export food service and retail markets (fresh and frozen).  All the company’s boats and crab suppliers practice traditional pot fishing methods that are sustainable with low environmental impact.  Shellfish De La Mer’s customer base now includes over 1500 restaurants in Ireland as well as having extensive retail market coverage in Ireland, the UK and throughout Europe. The FUSION project will develop new product development systems and the company’s culinary and nutrition capabilities in order to bring new shellfish products to the Irish and UK retail and food service markets, develop pasteurised crab meat technology and add value to crab shell waste.
