On 1 February 2006, the North/South Ministerial Council approved a [DOC] Code of Practice on access to information from the North/South Implementation Bodies. The Code of Practice was based on the Freedom of Information Acts 1997 and 2003 in Ireland and the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in the United Kingdom.
The primary aim of this Code is to facilitate access by members of the public to information held by the North/South Implementation Bodies leading to:
- greater openness and accountability and increased public confidence in the workings of the North/South Bodies and
- improvement in the quality of decision making by the North/South Bodies
Each Body is required to publish information relating to its function, structure and services together with a general description of the classes of information it holds and the procedures in place to help members of the public in using this Code.
