Gerry has over 20-years experience in multi-disciplined Business Management activities, in both indigenous and multinational organisations (inc. R+D and Innovation, Product Design, Technology transfer to Business Operations, Sales and Business Development), throughout Europe and North America.
His sectoral expertise includes Telecommunications, Internet technologies and Travel software solutions.
He held several executive positions with Nortel, leading cross-functional multi-site teams in R+D locations in Ireland, France, Wales and India. He directed the $30M, 200-employee Technology Division which successfully developed and launched the Meridian 1 range of telecoms solutions throughout EMEA. Gerry was accountable for day-to-day Global R+D leadership and Technology Strategy. He led the Product Management and Requirements Planning functions for complex systems/sub-systems. He scaled the Technology organisation from 50 to 200-employees, comprising Business Analysts, R+D Engineers, Project Managers and Market Launch and Support personnel.
Gerry has significant experience in business development and Sales closure activities; preparing Customer Value Propositions, managing direct Customer contacts at senior level and with Channel partners, writing responses to requests for proposals (RFP), preparing business cases, pricing and contract negotiation.
He helps companies to create and implement their business plans from Concept to Commercialisation. This includes providing guidance from the initial product/service concept stage through to full scale market launch and mentoring companies who are preparing for export markets (e.g. Enterprise Ireland First Flight programme). He has prepared successful submissions for collaborative R&D funding (incl. Innovation Partnership, Strategic Consultancy Grant, Vouchers Scheme and BMW Research Proposals).
He lectures regularly to entrepreneurs on 'Mentoring and Growing Your Business' and ‘Business Operations’ in the School of Business at GMIT and at NUIG.
