Dublin Belfast Corridor 2025 - Newry @ Canal Court Hotel, Newry, Co Down
Thursday 11.09.03 - Friday 12.09.03
This conference concerns North-South co-operation and the Belfast Dublin Corridor. It is hosted by Urban Institute Ireland, (UII) based at University College Dublin. Speakers will be from sectors including local and central government, the private sector and academe. The following academic institutions are also associated with the conference: Trinity College Dublin, Dublin Institute of Technology, University of Ulster, Queen's University Belfast, National University of Ireland Maynooth.
Conference Aims
To stimulate the further coordination of the strategic spatial plans of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland
To consider the positive and negative impacts of a strengthened corridor on quality of life, and to explore the common "planning agenda" needed to minimise the negative side-effects
To consider how the separate county and district plans in and near the corridor fit together, and how a strong corridor strategy might change those plans
To consider the governance and implementation of management issues
To listen to the advice of the private sector with regard to maximising the long-term international competitiveness of the island
And to lay the foundations for a permanent policy community to carry forward integrated study and execution of plans north and south
