Northern Ireland Economic Conference

Date : Wednesday 04.10.06

Details : The Annual Northern Ireland Economic Conference is a well established gathering of senior people from all sectors who have a serious interest in the performance of the local economy. This year, against a backdrop of growing economic realism, the theme for the Conference is ‘Making the Step Change’. ‘Making the Step Change’ means focusing on the policy priorities and key changes that are both necessary and achievable if Northern Ireland’s economy is going to break loose from its traditional public sector dependency and start to build, for the first time, a new growth dynamic from within.

The 11th Annual Northern Ireland Economic Conference will focus in on the areas that can provide the most immediate and cost-effective stimulation to the local economy. These include:

* A rapidly delivered investment (of unprecedented proportion) in economic infrastructure;

* a strategy for transferring economic activity from public to private sector, making the factors of production more productive;

* A real push on export capability;

* Short to medium term fiscal incentivisations

* harvesting the opportunities presented by the neighbouring tiger economy in terms of North/South co-operation and allisland economic development.

Keynote Speaker - Bertie Ahern

Bertie Ahern Speaking at the Northern Ireland Economic Conference 2006 - Wednesday 4th October @ The Hilton Hotel Templepatrick

Political Progress: An Essential Platform for Economic Success

The welcome participation of the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern TD in the Northern Ireland Economic Conference 2006, reflects firstly the importance of this dialogue, but also the extent to which the North/South dimension can yield the quick wins. The Taoiseach’s presence may also serve to remind us all that economic progress generally presupposes and then usually follows from political progress.

InterTradeIreland has sponsored the North/South Economic Co-operation and Development Agenda section of the conference where Liam Nellis, CEO InterTradeIreland will address the audience on the subject of the all-island economy.
