Dungannon Snack Food Company Recognised for Outstanding Innovation

Tyrone based company Mackle Snacks has been commended for its achievement in InterTradeIreland’s FUSION programme and awarded with a ‘Project Exemplar’ for outstanding innovation. The award recognises exceptionally high levels of innovation and collaboration between a company, their graduate and an academic as part of the FUSION programme.

InterTradeIreland’s technology transfer and innovation programme FUSION, partners companies north and south with a third-level institution and provides them with the specialist expertise of a high calibre graduate who works directly in the organisation to deliver a new product or process improvement project. Through the Programme, Dungannon based Mackle Snacks has benefitted from the services of St. Angela’s Food Technology Centre, Sligo and graduate Joanne Milligan. Joanne realised the development of healthy, nutritious and tasty snack food products focussed primarily at the younger demographic groups.

On receiving the award, Joseph Mackle, Managing Director of Mackle Snacks said:

The InterTradeIreland FUSION project helped us immensely to work on the development of a new range of nutritionally tasty snacks and allowed us to bring them to the market quickly. The result has strengthened mackle snacks position in the market and broadens our range of products that will increase sales with existing and new customers”.

Michael Hosey the aacademic from St Angela’s Food technology Centre in Sligo was vital to our project. The use of St Angela’s technical equipment was integral to the research for the development of our products. Michael’s extensive research and passion for this area of the industry has been both inspirational and extremely helpful. His knowledge and supervision on this project helped us to bring our product to market quicker than projected. I would recommend the FUSION project to SMEs because it enabled our company to hire a highly qualified graduate who was the driving force for this project.”
