Fall in business performance as firms battle rising costs – Business Monitor

InterTradeIreland has today (21st February) published the results of its quarterly all-island business monitor, the largest business survey on the island. In its quarter four report for 2010 which covers the period September to December – 1,000 businesses were surveyed (500 North and South) and key findings included:
Venture backed firms grow employment at 18.6% per year

InterTradeIreland and IVCA yesterday launched a report carried out by UCD’s Department of Entrepreneurial Studies which shows the positive impact venture capital has had on the economy.
SMEs benefited to the tune of £80/€90m through InterTradeIreland in 2009

In 2009, InterTradeIreland supported over 3,000 SMEs across the island through its programmes and services to increase their cross-border sales, access venture capital or develop new products and processes. As a result, over £80/€90m worth of sales or efficiency savings through InterTradeIreland’s range of programmes.
Programme launched to help SMEs access £12 bn all-island public sector market

Companies are being encouraged by InterTradeIreland to tap into the public sector market across the island which is estimated to be worth over £12billion each year. We are working with the Central Procurement Directorate in Northern Ireland and the Office of Public Works in Ireland to make the procurement market more accessible for SMEs. As part of this work we are rolling out a series of Go-2-Tender workshops and supports to help firms increase their chances of success when competing for public sector contracts North and South.
HBAN’s newest Angel Syndicate launched

Ireland’s newest Business Angel Syndicate Irrus Investments recently launched its new website. The Limerick-based syndicate is the first Irish commercial investment syndicate and is focussed on entrepreneurial companies. It has identified a gap in the market to fund high potential, go-ahead companies.
Twenty one companies in the running for ‘Innovation of the year' title

Twenty one companies from across the island have been announced as finalists in the prestigious Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation Awards. Three finalists were shortlisted in each of the seven innovation categories by an independent panel of judges and will now compete for the overall ‘Innovation of the Year’ award and a communications and advertising package from the Irish Times worth €200,000.

Kernel Capital recently announced a new €10m seed fund specificaly designed for the indigenous medical technology sector.
New border pact agreed

Councils in the border region will take a major step forward in the promotion of cross border partnership today with the signing of a major new Strategic Alliance. Louth local authorities and Newry and Mourne District Council will sign a Memorandum of Understanding which will commit the authorities to strengthen and promote the social, cultural and economic links within their combined local authority districts.
Intune Networks wins the Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation Awards

The Irish Times and InterTradeIreland this evening, March 2nd 2011, announced that Intune Networks is the winner of the overall ‘Innovation of the Year’ award. The winner was announced at an event hosted in the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Kilmainham and will receive a communications and advertising package from the Irish Times worth €200,000.
Availability of seed funding for Irish companies at highest level in 30 years

Over €250 million in funding available from Investors attending the 2011 InterTradeIreland Annual Venture Capital Conference A leading Irish Venture Capitalist has said that the availability of seed funds to invest in Irish companies in 2011 is at its highest level in 30 years. Speaking at the launch of the InterTradeIreland Annual Venture Capital Conference today, March 21st 2011, Niall Olden, Founder of Kernel Capital said that this is an extremely vibrant time for Irish VCs and that there has never been a better time to start up a business in Ireland.
