InterTradeIreland’s FUSION programme shortlisted for two GradIreland awards

InterTradeIreland’s FUSION programme has been shortlisted for Best Graduate Training and Development Programme at this year’s GradIreland Awards. Two of our FUSION graduates have also been shortlisted for the Graduate Employee of the Year award. The FUSION programme will hope to regain the title of Best Graduate Training and Development Programme having won the same award last year. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony which will take place on 13th April 2011 at the Mansion House, Dublin.

New €2 million technology investment syndicate established

Over 100 angel investors gathered in Dublin today to discuss the future of Ireland’s angel capital industry at the second annual Angel Investment Conference organised by HBAN Investor Syndicates. InterTradeIreland and Enterprise Ireland have identified the need to stimulate further seed capital from private investors hence the establishment of HBAN in 2009 which is a joint initiative between the agencies on an all-island basis.

Intune Networks wins the Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation Awards

The Irish Times and InterTradeIreland this evening, March 2nd 2011, announced that Intune Networks is the winner of the overall ‘Innovation of the Year’ award. The winner was announced at an event hosted in the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Kilmainham and will receive a communications and advertising package from the Irish Times worth €200,000.
New border pact agreed

Councils in the border region will take a major step forward in the promotion of cross border partnership today with the signing of a major new Strategic Alliance. Louth local authorities and Newry and Mourne District Council will sign a Memorandum of Understanding which will commit the authorities to strengthen and promote the social, cultural and economic links within their combined local authority districts.

Twenty one companies in the running for ‘Innovation of the year' title

Programme launched to help SMEs access £12 bn all-island public sector market

Companies are being encouraged by InterTradeIreland to tap into the public sector market across the island which is estimated to be worth over £12billion each year. Londonderry company is celebrating after landing a €2m contract

Hunter Apparel Solutions in Springtown, one of InterTradeIreland's Business Amabassadors, has landed a €2m (£1.7m)contract to supply waterproof jackets, shorts and trousers to 6,000 An Post staff. The company was established in 1936 and now has 40 staff.
InterTradeIreland publishes energy management report

InterTradeIreland today published its report on the energy management sector. This report considers energy management and energy efficiency services a new sector that involves businesses involved in measuring and managing resource efficiency through a combination of ICT hardware (e.g. sensor technologies) and software, as well as consultancy and efficiency advice activities.

One in three Businesses indicate lack of finance for investment is constraining

InterTradeIreland’s latest Business Monitor survey for Q3 indicates that a lack of finance for investment is constraining growth for one third of businesses in Ireland. The monitor, which surveys 1,000 companies across the island on a quarterly basis, highlighted that businesses have seen a decline in sales and cashflow, with there being a perceived lack of access to finance from the banking system. However, despite this lack of cash, only one in 10 businesses approached their banks for funding.
ALR Innovations and Zinc Software crowned winners at Seedcorn Competition

ALR Innovations and Zinc Software were named the Best High Growth Company and Best Emerging Company respectively at InterTradeIreland’s annual All-island Seedcorn Business Competition. The event, which took place at the Burlington in Dublin on Wednesday night, is the largest business competition on the island. As the Best High Growth Company on the island, ALR Innovations has won the overall prize of €100,000 while Zinc Software will take home a cash prize of €50,000 for its success as the Best Emerging Company.
InterTadeIreland Event Brings Government Buyers And Businesses Together

160 small businesses were given the opportunity to hear from and meet with Government buyers at an InterTradeIreland ‘Meet the Buyer’ event on Thursday 24th November. The event was organised by InterTradeIreland to raise awareness of public procurement amongst SMEs with varying levels of tendering experience, from novices to seasoned tenderers. ITI Economic Forum attracts key economists to discuss Ireland’s Path to Recovery

A number of leading international economists today, (November 25th 2011) addressed over 100 delegates at the third annual InterTradeIreland Economic Forum in Dublin Castle. The Forum, entitled “Path to Recovery”, addressed the economic prospects and policy options for the island. The conference was officially opened by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD, who stated “North and South, we all face the common crucial challenge of creating jobs and economic growth. This is key to resolving our difficulties, and this Government is determined to rise to that challenge. SMEs discover key to unlocking public sector contracts

160 small Irish businesses were given the opportunity to meet with Government buyers, a market worth up to €21 billion per annum North and South, at InterTradeIreland’s first all-island ‘Meet the Buyer’ event in Dundalk today. The event, which is designed to raise awareness and understanding of the public procurement processes among Irish SMEs, saw buyers from across the island of Ireland, give their perspective on procurement and to advise SMEs on the dos and don’ts when competing for business. Many SMEs perceive there are barriers to overcome in securing public sector contracts such as understanding of public sector buying practices and the bureaucratic nature of the process. However, despite current budgetary constraints, this market is so large, SMEs cannot afford to ignore it.
Irish-based Nubie.com launches UK version of its nine step process for start-ups

InterTradeIreland today announced the regional winners of Seedcorn 2011, the largest business competition of its kind across the island, offering a total prize fund of €280,000. In the Best Emerging Company category, My Tour Talk based in central Belfast prevailed and Cirdan from Lisburn won the title of Best High Growth Company for Northern Ireland. As a regional winner, both businesses are guaranteed a prize fund of at least €20,000 each and will now go on to compete in the all-island final on the 30 November in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin.

US-Ireland Partnership Announces Extension of Research Collaboration

2 November 11
The seventh meeting of the US-Ireland R&D Partnership Steering Group which was held today, Tuesday 1 November, in Farmleigh, Dublin, announced an extension of the Partnership which will now include collaborations in Telecommunications and Energy and Sustainability. The Partnership is already supporting collaborative strategic research in the areas of Nanotechnology, Sensor Technology, Diabetes and Cystic Fibrosis with a current investment of €14m across the three jurisdictions.

BALLYMENA COMPANY IS INTERTRADEIRELAND FUSION PROJECT OF THE YEAR WINNER

An innovation project, undertaken as part of InterTradeIreland’s Fusion programme, at Ballymena-based Moorings Mediquip, has been named ‘Project of the Year’, at a recent InterTradeIreland awards ceremony. With InterTradeIreland’s support, Carryduff graduate Eamonn McKnight was appointed by Moorings Mediquip in 2009 to undertake a Fusion project to design, develop and bring to market a new walking aid device for children with cerebral palsy. The new product development will see Moorings Mediquip break into new markets across the UK, Ireland and as far away as Australia and Canada.
InterTradeIreland Programmes Prove Successful For Local Graduates

At InterTradeIreland’s 2011 graduation ceremony today, it was revealed that more than two thirds of the graduates participating in all-island innovation and trade programmes with the organisation have been offered permanent positions by the SMEs that they have been working with. At the event, InterTradeIreland graduates heard that they could be the key to rebuilding and revitalising the economy and that their skills can make a substantial difference to business performance. This coincides with recent research undertaken by the Association of Graduate Recruiters, which states that graduates contribute £1billion of added value to the UK economy every year.

All-Island Innovation Awards Launched in Belfast

Belfast played host to the launch of the 2012 Irish Times InterTradeIreland All-island Innovation Awards on Friday 2nd September. Around 70 companies from across the province attended the innovation roadshow event which took place in the University of Ulster’s York Road Campus in Belfast. Now in its third year, the competition aims to recognise and promote the best innovations within organisations of all sectors and all sizes across the island.
JFC receives InterTradeIreland award for commitment to Innovation

€42 millon invested by Enterprise Ireland backed VC firms

Fergal Ó Móráin, Director of Corporate and Investment Services at Enterprise Ireland has launched the Enterprise Ireland Seed & Venture Capital Programme 2010 Report. The report shows that Irish venture capital firms supported by Enterprise Ireland made 105 investments in 74 companies with a value of €42 million in 2010.
Multi billion EU funding opportunities on ‘horizon’ for Research and Innovation

A number of barriers exist for SMEs, wishing to secure contracts in the all island public procurement market. Despite current budgetary constraints, the market is still worth up to €21 billion per annum, North and South. The market has become so large that SMEs cannot afford to ignore it. However, according to InterTradeIreland, while considerable progress has been made towards making the market more accessible, many SMEs still perceive there are barriers to overcome in securing public sector contracts. Enterprise Ireland yesterday announced that the latest round of funding from the €3.2bn industry-focused initiatives under the EU’s €50bn Framework Programme 7 (FP7) budget will be available to Irish businesses from mid-July. These Public Private Partnership initiatives are aimed at those sectors most affected by the economic downturn, namely manufacturing, construction and automotive.
New research reveals almost 1/2 of companies are contracting or struggling

Rising Costs of Overheads Issue of Key Concern for Business New research published today (June 12th 2011) undertaken with 1,000 business managers across Ireland, North and South, shows that nearly half of all businesses in Ireland are contracting or in survival mode. The results show that weak consumer sentiment is continuing to have an impact on businesses with 70% of all companies surveyed citing reduced consumer demand as a concern although 38% had moved to decrease prices over the last quarter. Perhaps as a result of this, almost one third of businesses are struggling to remain profitable.

InterTradeIreland FUSION graduate student named Graduate Employee of the Year

Dwain Tarmey, Graduate of the InterTradeIreland FUSION programme, was announced as a winner at the annual gradireland awards for his work in designing, developing and bringing to market an orthopaedic device, which has been launched successfully in the US and 52 other countries worldwide. Dwain joined Carrick-on-Shannon based medical devices company Vista Med Ltd, as a project engineer through InterTradeIreland’s FUSION programme in 2009.

InterTradeIreland’s 10th Annual Venture Capital Conference was formally opened today, 7th April 2011, by the Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD. The event which took place in the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Dublin was held in association with Kernel Capital, and brought together 270 attendees from across business with investors who have access to over €250 million available for new ventures. InterTradeIreland has announced the launch of this year’s All-Island Seedcorn Business Competition with a cash prize fund of €280,000. Each year, companies taking part in the unique competition, which mimics the real-life investment process, are mooted as the ‘ones to watch’. Liam Nellis, InterTradeIreland Chief Executive, said: “Seedcorn is the largest business competition of its kind across the island. Aside from the substantial prize fund on offer, companies taking part will join InterTradeIreland Seedcorn network – an extensive business and investment community that will help boost their profile, contacts and create potential investment opportunities.
